‘Onwards and Upwards!’

Safeguarding

At Longlands Primary School and Nursery, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We are fully committed to promoting the welfare of all children and young people, and keeping them safe is our highest priority.

We follow the latest statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children, which set out clear expectations for schools to work in partnership with families, local authorities and other agencies to protect children from harm. We also work closely with the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership to ensure our practices reflect local priorities and best practice.

Our Approach to Safeguarding

We aim to create a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where children feel secure, valued and listened to. All staff, volunteers and visitors are expected to share our commitment to safeguarding and are trained to recognise and respond to concerns.

We have robust procedures in place to prevent unsuitable individuals from working or volunteering in our school. All concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing are taken seriously and must be reported to a member of our Safeguarding Team at the earliest opportunity.

Staff are encouraged to report concerns without fear of consequence. Our safeguarding team liaises with statutory children’s services when necessary, and the Headteacher ensures that all staff receive regular and appropriate safeguarding training.

Our Safeguarding Team

  • Mrs Nicola Adams – Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Headteacher
  • Ms Donna Hunt – Deputy DSL, Deputy Headteacher
  • Mrs Anna Lacle – Deputy DSL, Senior Leadership Team and EYFS Lead

Our Safeguarding Governor, Mrs Anald Vilhete, plays an active role in monitoring and supporting safeguarding practices across the school.

Working in Partnership with Families

We believe that safeguarding is most effective when schools and families work together. Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children understand how to stay safe, both in school and beyond. We encourage open communication and welcome any concerns or questions you may have.

If you ever have a concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing, please speak to a member of our safeguarding team. You can also contact Children’s Services directly via the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership:
