Data Protection (GDPR)

At Longlands Primary School and Nursery, we take the protection of personal data seriously. Safeguarding children’s information is an essential part of creating a safe and respectful school environment. We are committed to handling all personal data securely, transparently and in line with current legislation.

The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 set out how schools must collect, store, use and share personal data. These laws are designed to protect individuals’ privacy and ensure that organisations like ours are accountable for how data is managed.

We follow guidance from the Department for Education and Hertfordshire County Council, and have clear policies and procedures in place to ensure compliance. These include how we respond to data breaches, manage subject access requests, and share information appropriately with trusted partners such as the NHS, local authorities and education agencies.

Our Data Protection Officer

Our Data Protection Officer (DPO) is Mrs Dawn Mathews. She oversees our data protection practices and ensures that we meet our legal responsibilities.

Requesting Access to Personal Data

Under data protection legislation, parents and carers have the right to request access to personal information we hold about them or their child. This is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

To make a request, please contact Mrs Dawn Mathews using the details above. Any written request for personal data will be treated as a SAR. Please note that a printing charge may apply if physical copies of documents are requested.

We aim to respond to SARs within one calendar month, as required by law.

However, we kindly ask for your understanding that these requests can be time-consuming for school staff, particularly during busy periods.

Preparing and reviewing data takes time and care, and may temporarily divert staff from other duties. If a request is complex or involves a large amount of information, we may take up to an additional two months to complete the process.
