Year 3 at Longlands
Year 3 marks an exciting transition as children move from Key Stage 1 into Key Stage 2. It’s a year where children grow in independence, confidence and maturity, and begin to take greater ownership of their learning. Our aim is to support them every step of the way in a nurturing and stimulating environment.
Our Year 3 Team
- Miss Webb – Class Teacher
- Miss Kinsella and Miss Archer – Teaching Assistant
Our team works closely with each child to ensure they feel settled, supported and inspired to learn.
Learning in Year 3
In Year 3, children follow the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum, which introduces new challenges and builds on the foundations of earlier learning.
In English, children develop their reading fluency and comprehension, begin to write with greater structure and creativity, and learn important grammar and punctuation skills. In mathematics, they explore place value, addition and subtraction with larger numbers, multiplication and division facts, and continue working with fractions and measurements.
Our curriculum also includes engaging topic work such as:
- Rivers and the Water Cycle
- The Victorians
- Healthy Bodies, Healthy Eating
These topics help children make connections across subjects and encourage curiosity about the world around them.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We continue to follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme, which supports children’s emotional wellbeing, social skills and personal development. Each half term focuses on a different theme, such as:
- Being Me in My World
- Healthy Me
- Dreams and Goals
These sessions help children understand themselves and others, build resilience and develop positive relationships.
